This week’s style picks

Here are a few things i’m lusting over this week…

I spotted a Rails LA shirt on  @Chrisellelim’s Instagram a few days ago and decided to give the brand a closer look.  I checked out their Clothes on Revolve and fell in love with this shirt.  It would be perfect for layering with other pieces this fall and winter.

I’m pretty sure I need a new pair of basic skinny jeans.  I’ve been wearing my Citizens of Humanity Avedon Skinny Jeans for the past two years and its time for something new, something different. I love Rag & Bone Jeans so my next pair will either be these (spotted here) or these

This is another Instagram find.  I picked up this chic & cheap Threshold™ Gold Snake Print Embossed Serving Tray from Target yesterday and I can’t wait style it.

’tis the season…. for pumpkin spice!  This is one of the first things I buy when it gets chilly outside.  There’s nothing better than smoking pumpkin spice shisha on a crisp fall day.

I love the Fanstasia pumkin spice (buy here) but the Starbuzz Pumpkin Pie is great as well (buy here)

One thing that is missing in my wardrobe is quality sweaters.  Everlane makes quality items at great prices.  I have already envisioned so many outfits I can create with this Seed Stitch Box Cut Sweater.

P.S. They also make great(cheap) t-shirts

When I was in London I picked up three Nails Inc. polishes on a whim;  Bruton StreetJermyn Street, and Tate.  I didn’t know what to expect, but I tried them and their amazing! They’re even better than Essie!  The application is smooth, the brush is perfect,  and they dry super fast.  You can find them at Sephora in the States.  I will be picking up this sample pack soon.

Travel Diary: 24 hours in Iceland

I just got back from my European vacation last week.  It was a whirlwind trip and we made stops in Iceland, Paris, and London.

While I was researching plane tickets I noticed that IcelandAir had some of the lowest fares for flights to Europe.  All of their flights stop in Iceland on the way to/from Europe.  To promote tourism in Iceland you can extend your layover when you fly there by up to 7 days without paying for any additional airfare.  That sealed the deal for me, i’m always down to add another stamp to my passport.

We took a red eye from Dulles to Reykjavik and we landed at 6AM in Iceland.  The suns was just beginning to rise and the landscape was beautiful.

We started our trip by exploring Reykjavik….

We got our luggage and headed to the Flybus desk.  Flybus offers a bus service to the Reykjavik BSI bus terminal for around $16 US per person.  Reykjavik is about a 45 min bus ride from the airport.  We stored our luggage at the BSI bus terminal while we went exploring.

I stopped in a coffee shop and learned about thier national dish, sheeps head.  #nothanks

The first thing we had to do was find breakfast.  Most of the restaurants in Reykjavik were closed when we arrived at 8 AM. we walked around for awhile and eventually we found one.

They offered a very generous breakfast that we split between 2 people for around $15.

After we finished eating we headed towards the Main Attraction, Hallgrímskirkja, which is one of the coolest looking church’s i’ve ever seen.

The view inside…

and the view from the top…

After this we headed back to the Bus terminal to get our luggage and to head to the Blue Lagoon.   I believe the bus to the lagoon cost around $15 per person.  I was ridiculously jet-lagged so I took a nap on our way to the lagoon and woke up to this…

We stayed in the Blue Lagoon Clinic Hotel.  The hotel has a clinic for people with skin issues like psoriasis, but they keep 15 rooms set aside for tourists.  They also have their own private lagoon that hotel guests can use from 8-10am and 8-10pm.

We explored the hotel for a bit. This is the view of our room…

Lava fields forever…

The hotel is a short 10 minute walk to the main lagoon…

They give you silica mud masks to put on your face….

By the time I came back from the main lagoon it was after 8, So I got an inner tube and hung out in the clinic’s private lagoon until 10.

I was hoping to see the northern lights while we were there, but it wasn’t in the forecast.  I overheard someone who said that they had seen them the night before. Hopefully I will get to see them the next time I visit.

We woke up at 4AM the next morning to catch our 7AM flight to Paris.  The hotel laid out one of the best continental breakfasts i’ve ever had just for us to eat before we left.

Overall, I would say that Iceland was surprisingly one of the best travel experiences i’ve ever had.  I’m pretty sure I will stop there every time I go to Europe.

Is there anything else you would like to know about Iceland?

Feel free to ask any questions below, I’d be happy to answer them!

P.S. stay tuned for my Paris & London travel diaries.

This week’s style picks

Yesterday was the first day of fall.  The temperature is dropping I am craving some new goodies for to keep me warm. This fall I am really into Black and white with pops of red. Here are a few things that I’ve been lusting over this week….

The Dolce Vita Giya Loafers.  You can get them at Nordstrom or Anthropologie.  I tried these on yesterday and they look so smart.  They would go great with leggings and chunky knit sweaters.

I NEED these shoes in my life.  I have been drooling over the Giuseppe Zanotti Lace-Up Suede Gladiator High-Heel Sandals ever since I saw them on Song of Style, but they were a little too pricey for me.  Then I saw Tuula Vintage wearing a very similar but cheaper pair and I had to have them.  You can find them here, or you can get an even cheaper version here.

I picked up this ASOS Blouse a few days ago.  It’s currently sold out, but Zara does something Similar.

Isabel Marant is one of my favorite designers.  I recently came across the red version of her infamous dicker boots.  The price is a bit steep, but I will definitely purchase them if the price goes down.

This BB DAKOTA Elle Heather French Terry Wrap would be a great addition for the fall.  It will keep you warm and stylish at the same time.

Our Favorite Man Repeller just released her first book, Man Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls.  I read the kindle sample and I know this will be a good read.

Finally, we can top it off with a fabulous vampy red lipstick.  I heard that Mac released their “Retro Matte” Collection.  I wanted to get the Fixed On Drama Lipstick after seeing it on ulovemegz, but it is sold out already.  MouldyFruit blogged about the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Dark Berry and it looks promising.  Diva by MAC is another great alternative.

My Favorite Juice for Weight Loss

I’ve been juicing a lot more lately, mostly for weight loss.  As I was flipping through one of my favorite Juicing books, Juicing Recipes From Fitlife.TV Star Drew Canole For Vitality and Health, I noticed a recipe that is recommended for weight loss and I decided to give it a try.  It’s called the Green Juices Recipe Energizer.  I tried it a few times and it really does work.  It’s delicious, it tastes like a Mean Green Juice with pizazz.

The day after I drink this I feel like my problem areas have slimmed down and the number on the scale is lower.  It’s made with fennel, which tastes a bit like licorice. Fennel is an interesting veggie and I’ve never come across it until I needed for this recipe, I hear that its also great roasted.  All of the other ingredients are the usual suspects you would find in a green juice.  I just chop everything up before I put it through my Big Boss Juicer (A Few Alternatives). Try it out and let me know what you think.

My Take on Anthropologie’s New Arrivals July 2013

Anthropologie updated their website with some new arrivals for July, and I think I’m in love!  I used to be an Anthro enthusiast a few years ago.  I wanted to buy everything they released, and I waited patiently for all of my favorite items to go on sale.  Then one day something happened, I don’t know if it was them or me.  Suddenly their clothes weren’t as appealing to me, and I felt like they no longer fit my aesthetic.  I stopped purchasing their clothes.  I sold off all of my old Anthro clothes on eBay and discovered new places to shop.  I still went into Anthropologie every so often to take a peek at their housewares, but I couldn’t find clothes that I liked in their store anymore. Then, it happened.

I came home a few days ago and the Anthropologie monthly catalog was waiting for me per usual.  I had been ignoring their offerings for so long, but the cover image for the July catalog spoke to me.

I went through the catalog and looked at their new stuff online and I found so much stuff that I NEED. Here are a few of my favorites….
